Amanda Toy was born to bring colors into the world and by telling the reality with the lightness of a child, she is an inspiration to all those who wish to (re)discover their playful side.
Amanda Toy has been creating a playfully pop-like imaginary world for more than 20 years that invites viewers to look at the world through a child’s eyes. Reinterpreting Mark Rothko's color expressivity, Yayoi Kusama's thematic insistence, and Frida Kahlo's naive taste, Amanda draws on skin clean lines and vivid colors to tell stories through her emotions and feelings. Doll-like women, flowers, animals and fantastic creatures come to life in an explosion of joy, but under the dark/bright game of contrasts, deeper thoughts and ideas are hidden to be discovered .
There is no rainbow without rain; this is the foundation of Amanda's poetics.
Her artwork - tattoos, paintings and sculptures - awaken that childish lightness that help us believe in our abilities and discover the treasures that life has in store for us.
